Exploring Tofino’s Ecosystems

On the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC is a magical place called Tofino.
Join me on an exploration throughout Tofino's beautiful rainforest, intertidal, and mudflay ecosystems and learn some fun facts about each! When visiting Tofino, remember to leave no trace, stay on trails, and respect the incredible natural areas!

What Is a Wildlife Tree?

Trees are ecologically important throughout their entire existence, even after they die!
The tremendous habitat they provide for other species grants them the name: wildlife trees. Dead and dying trees are often removed by humans as they’re considered to be unattractive (compared to living trees) and can be hazardous to people if they fall over. However, wildlife trees provide tremendous habitat for many species throughout the entirety of a their decomposition, supporting the forest ecosystem as a whole.
